Newbuild Classification

From blueprint to class notation—without the drama.
Our Newbuild Classification service provides a structured pathway from concept to delivery. Whether it’s a cargo carrier, offshore unit, passenger vessel, or special-purpose ship, we work seamlessly with owners, yards, and designers to ensure that every vessel is built in compliance with international class rules and statutory requirements
With end-to-end oversight, we reduce project risks, enhance transparency, and guarantee timely issuance of QR-secured class certificates and a complete delivery file.
Scope of Services – What We Cover
Concept & Rule Interpretation Workshops
Before steel is cut, we help design teams interpret rules and anticipate requirements. Workshops ensure alignment with:
- International Association of Classification Societies (IACS) frameworks
- Flag Administration policies
- IMO conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, MLC, Load Line)
- Specialized notations (DP, Ice Class, Automation, Cargo Service)

Plan Approval
Our experts review and approve documentation across all technical domains:
- Hull structures – strength, fatigue, corrosion margins
- Machinery & piping – propulsion, auxiliary systems, fuel systems
- Electrical & automation – power generation, distribution, DP/automation
- Stability & loading conditions – intact & damage stability
- Fire protection & safety systems – compliance with SOLAS & FSS Code
Materials & Welding Oversight
We safeguard construction quality by:
- Reviewing WPS/PQR in line with IACS UR W and AWS/ISO standards
- Witnessing non-destructive testing (NDT): ultrasonic, radiographic, magnetic particle, dye penetrant
- Verifying steel plates, castings, forgings, and coatings
Construction Surveillance
On-site surveyors follow vessel progress from keel to commissioning:
- Block Assembly & Keel Laying – verifying steel quality and structural alignment
- Hull Launching & Outfitting – overseeing critical stages before trials
- Harbor Trials – systems, propulsion, automation checks
- Sea Trials – speed, maneuverability, endurance, and safety demonstrations
Statutory Coordination
We act as liaison between the yard, owner, and Flag Administration for statutory certification:
- SOLAS Safety Certificates – safety equipment, construction, radio
- MARPOL – pollution prevention, ballast water, sewage, emissions
- International Load Line Certificate – verifying freeboard & stability
- Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) – crew accommodation, health & safety
Class Notations Configuration
Every vessel is unique. We configure additional class notations based on service profile:
- Ice Class – enhanced hull strength for polar navigation
- Dynamic Positioning (DP) – precision station-keeping
- Automation & Unmanned Machinery Spaces (UMS) – efficiency & remote operation
- Special Cargo Service – LNG carriers, offshore units, passenger ships
- Green Notations – compliance with energy efficiency (EEDI/EEXI) and sustainability

Deliverables
At handover, clients receive a comprehensive package:
- Plan approval reports with official annotations
- Surveillance reports – stage-by-stage inspection records
- Trial protocols & results – signed off by class surveyors
- Final Class Certificate – globally recognized proof of classification
- QR-Secured Digital History File – ensuring full traceability
- Delivered Ship File – organized for flag acceptance and charterer confidence
The Classification Process
Our process is designed for efficiency and transparency:
- Scope & Rules Definition – confirm vessel type, service profile, and applicable notations
- Plan Approval – technical review of all drawings & calculations
- Yard Surveillance – on-site inspections at construction milestones
- Trials – dock and sea trials witnessed by surveyors
- Class Issue – issuance of Class Certificate and digital ship file
