BQCIS

Protecting Assets Through Surface Integrity Verification

The condition of a substrate and the performance of its protective coating are crucial for extending asset life and reducing maintenance costs. Surface and coating assessments ensure proper surface preparation, coating thickness, adhesion, and continuity in line with international standards.

Prior to coating, inspections confirm cleanliness, roughness, and defect-free substrate conditions. After application, inspectors verify coating thickness (using DFT gauges), adhesion, and detect holidays, pinholes, or visual anomalies such as blistering and cracking following SSPC, ISO, and NACE methodologies.

BQCIS employs NACE/FROSIO certified coating inspectors to ensure each phase of coating—from surface prep to final cure—meets design and environmental protection requirements, providing confidence that your asset’s coating system will perform as intended.

Key Assessment Activities

Surface Preparation Verification

Assessing surface cleanliness (SSPC-SP), roughness profile (via replica tape or digital gauge), and defect-free preparation before coating application.

Coating Application & Integrity Checks

Performing DFT measurement, adhesion testing, holiday detection, and post-application visual evaluation to confirm full protective performance.

Key Benefits of Surface & Coating Assessment

Benefit Icon

Maximize Corrosion Protection

Ensures coatings are properly applied over well-prepared substrates, providing maximum corrosion and chemical resistance.

Benefit Icon

Extend Coating Lifespan

Early detection of coating defects prevents premature deterioration, extending protective performance and reducing rework.

Benefit Icon

Ensure Specification Compliance

Verifies that both surface preparation and coating processes comply with client, project, and industry standards (ISO, SSPC, NACE).

Benefit Icon

Reduce Future Maintenance Costs

Accurate inspection at the outset prevents coating failures and reduces long-term repair, shutdown, and re-coating costs.

Success Story

Coating Inspection Prevents Premature Tank Failure

The Challenge:

A chemical storage tank required third-party inspection of internal lining to verify corrosion resistance and coating quality before service.

Our Solution:

BQCIS NACE-certified inspectors oversaw surface prep, environmental conditions, and final DFT and holiday testing to ensure coating compliance.

The Result:

Several under-thickness areas and missed holidays were identified and repaired prior to commissioning, preventing early failure and costly downtime.
